James 1:3-The Purpose of Trials

James 1:3, “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”  Knowing in Greek is ginosko which means to know by experience.  Trying in Greek is dokimion which speaks of a test by which something is proved or tried.  Patience in Greek is hupomone which means endurance toward things or circumstances.  Worketh in Greek is katergazomai which means to accomplish, to finish or to perform.  What James is telling them is that experience has taught them that these trials that they are facing create an endurance in their lives toward tough circumstances and situations.  The reason that they…

The People In The Bible Are Real Like You And Me

The People In The Bible Are Real Like You And Me

Too often we forget that the people in the Bible were real people like you and me.  We see them as superheroes or fictional characters, who somehow were better, stronger and were far above our capacity.  What we fail to see is their struggles and their weaknesses.  We fail to look at the times when they fail and need grace.  1 Corinthians 1:26-28, “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:  But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the…

The Immutability of God

James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”  Variableness in Greek is parallage which means variation or change.  Shadow is aposkiasma which means a shade cast from one object to another or a shadow.  Turning in Greek is trope which means to turn or revolve.  The point being made is that God does not change.  Malachi 3:6, “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”  There is not even a…

Ruth: A Life Lived For God Has A Big Impact

Ruth 1:3-4, “And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.  And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.”  Ruth was not even Jewish, she was from Moab.  her husband had moved to Moab with his parents.  Her husband died, her brother in law died, her father in law died.  She decided to move to Judah with her mother in law, Naomi.        Ruth did no spectacular, great deeds.  She was not…

James Introduction Verses 1:1-2 -How to Think in a Trial

The book of James was written by James the older, half brother of Jesus.  James is listed in a list of Jesus’ brothers in Matthew 13:55, “Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?”  The Epistle of James is the first book written in the New Testament.  It was written between 46 AD and 62 AD.  It speaks on the ethical aspects of the Christian life and is composed of general admonitions and exhortations.  The major theme is to put outward action to our inward…

Deep Bible Study Is For Everyone Not Just Leaders

Deep Bible Study Is For Everyone Not Just Leaders

Psalm 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  2 Timothy 2:15, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”  One thing is very clear from reading the Bible.  Scripture is important to our lives and our spiritual growth.  All believers in Jesus Christ should have regular, personal study time and devotional.  Bible study is not something that is only for leaders, pastors or men only.  It is for everyone.  The Bible studies done by The Truth Won are…
